The first novel in Imamura Shougo’s Ushuuboro Tobigumi light novel series will be adapted into a TV anime in the Winter of 2026 by Synergy SP studio. The historical novel will also receive a manga adaptation in the Spring of 2025 by Seguchi Shinobu. An official teaser video and visual have been released.

Shodensha published Imamura’s first novel, Hikuidore, in March 2017. The 11th novel was published in two parts in 2020, and a spinoff novel with short stories was released in March 2022.

The Hikuidore story is described below:

There was once a samurai firefighter who was known as the best in Edo. His name was Matsunaga Gengo. He was also known as “fire-eating bird.” However, due to a fire five years ago, he now lives as a poor ronin with his wife Miyuki. Then, he suddenly receives an invitation to serve from the Dewa Shinjo clan. They ask him to rebuild the clan’s destroyed firefighter organization. Can Gengo regain his former glory by leading the firefighters who are derided as “rag-tag tobi”?
