I stood by the front gate of my school, Kiseki High School. I gazed at the view of the school field.
Another day of my high school life. This is the moment I've yearned for since I was a child.
Living as an ordinary high school student, spending time with friends and perhaps, starting my romance journey? A simple, peaceful life filled with joy. With no strict barrier limiting me.
I felt my excitement rushing through my whole body. I took a deep breath and exhaled, enjoying this morning air breeze—which, by the way, was filled with the faint boomof explosions in the distance.
Yeah… you read it right…
HOW THE HECK THINGS ENDED UP LIKE THIS!!??
Many years prior. I, Yukihiko Fukunaga, was at his young age. I was born and lived together with my rich family in a big mansion. This was my so-called “perfect” life.
I've been blessed with everything most people probably envy: wealth, privilege, and grandeur. My father is the senior director of a wealthy company, focusing on doing research and producing advanced technologies. At the same time, I’m also blessed with a bloodline tied to a nobility from my mother.
Though… so blessed yet so broken.
This nobility and luxury life runs in a plain and monotone cycle. Repetitive strict daily routine, direction and even affecting my earlier school life.
Friends? Well they're not there for me if not because of my status as a member of the noble family. I felt no joy and freedom with this kind of life.
However, one day I finally made my choice. This time, I decided to live like an ordinary person. And one requirement for it—is to be a student at a regular school. And so I've applied to Kiseki High School. Nothing luxurious, just an ordinary high school, no more of that strict noble school schedules and attitude.
Here, I'm ready to start my journey living as a normal person.
And now back to today's morning. My first day finally being able to complete my requirements to be considered as an ordinary person, becoming a student in a regular high school.
It's been awhile since I woke up with a genuine excitement to go to the school I've been wanting to go to, Kiseki High school. Unlike in the past, I'm doing what an ordinary person would do in their daily life.
I've decided to live by myself in my own house, putting my luxurious life away from me… well… in general, an ordinary person around my age shouldn't have their own house but… look—I guess I haven't been able to completely detach myself from the previous luxurious daily life. So… let's just let it slide this time…
Anyway, of course, I've also learned many skills to support the idea of living by myself as an ordinary person.
I'm now used to cooking my own breakfast with groceries I bought like normal people would do, no longer needing maids to prepare them for me.
In the past, I drank premium quality iceberg-harvested purified™ water all the time, costing $40 per liter. Well, it's not worth the price for its taste differences—kind of. Honestly, just regular tap water is already nice, I'm good with it.
Wearing this standard-class uniform as I’m preparing myself to get ready to go to school felt really nice. No more of those shines from clothes.
Aight, now I'm prepared and ready to go.
It took me minutes but I finally arrived.
It’s here, I walked through the school gate. My eyes scanned the whole place as I’m appreciating this front view of the school filled with students with an actual, real sense of happiness. Never been in my life has I felt this free.
Genuinely, I have never actually seen it in action… kinda sad, isn’t it? Though, I have seen it a lot in manga and anime.
“Oof-”
Oh, this. I know what’s going on. I have read enough manga to know that kind of person, a big tough guy with a menacing face—a bully, would bump into someone like me… actually, why me? Am I an MC in a manga or something…?
Heh, this won’t be a big deal for me. Time for a taste of your own medicine, big guy.
I turned around, eyes sharp, I gave an intimidating look.
“Oi, You—”
Eh?
I tilted my head down a little. Turns out the person who bumped into me was shorter than me… and very much not a big jacked dude. Instead, it was just a… girl?
Not so tall nor short, average height. She has short purple hair, and there was a bright green ribbon tied at the top of her head, kind of playful. She looked at me with a calm expression and her blue eyes.
She seemed like a kind girl.
"Ah sorry I didn't see you there... You know, that face you just made is kinda ugly, not gonna lie."
HUH!?
W-what did she just call me!?
“Anyway, yeah, sorry again. You seemed a bit lost. So here’s a word of advice: don't make that kind of face to someone you just met, seriously." She said with a deadpan expression.
And then she just walked away…
I believe I stood there, completely stunned for minutes.
I… really wasn’t expecting that.
Suddenly, the school bell rang. I snapped out of it and ran to the main hall for the school's opening ceremony.
I took a seat and put down my bag next to my seat.
Huft. That girl, it was something else. Well I guess I should have expected someone like her to be in a regular school. But hey, at least it's a normal thing here.
I shrugged and leaned back. I closed my eyes as I waited for the ceremony to start.
“You should've used HRX 5090 VI instead of that haha!”
“Eh… nah my HRX 4080 VI still does its job. No need for that.”
Oho, someone is actually talking about gaming stuff. They're talking about a powerful computer component for gaming. Man, I'm so happy knowing that there's someone I can talk to about that.
“See? it's still working just fine.”
“True, but look at these live stats. Its processing power is quite worth it for the AI stuff right?”
Huh? Live statistics? Did they bring their computer or something…? Actually, there's a portable laptop variant for it but did they…?
I got really curious about what's happening, I opened my eyes and turned my head to the source of the chit chat.
what.
That was my honest reaction.
I just saw a whole damn massive robot. Am I… hallucinating? an actual cyberpunk robot sitting next to high school students!? and don't tell me they built th-
“Well since it came out at the perfect timing, I built it right away with it, heh.”
THEY ACTUALLY BUILT THAT!?
Before I could fully process what I’d just witnessed, the ceremony ended and half an hour had passed. Somehow.
And now I'm sitting in my class, 10-F. I stared at my test paper, my head was still on the robot thing… I don't think I remember anything from the ceremony…
I suppose… that was a normal thing…?
