Akita Shoten’s Princess magazine has confirmed that a new Saint Seiya manga spinoff will launch on January 6th, 2025, in the magazine’s February 2025 issue. The new manga, titled Saint Mariya, by Kurumada Masami and Shimotsuki Seira, centers on a young girl named Mariya, who is looking forward to starting her school life at Graad University. However, something strange happens after a certain harp is played in the auditorium.
Kurumada (Ring ni Kakero, Fuuma no Kojirou, B’tX) published the original Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) manga from 1986 to 1990, and Shueisha released the manga’s tankoubon volumes, starting with the first in September 1986 and ending with the 28th volume in April 1991. The story follows Seiya, a 13-year-old kid who has been training to get the title of Knight of Athena. Once he obtains the Pegasus’ bronze armor, he returns to Japan to participate in the Galactic Tournament, hoping his lost sister will watch him on TV. Soon, the story turns into a fight to protect humanity from the forces of evil under the protection of Saori Kido, Athena’s incarnation.
The original manga has inspired numerous anime projects, sequels, spinoffs, and prequels, including the Saint Seiya: Next Dimension – Meiou Shinwa manga, which Kurumada began in 2006 and ended in July 2024.
