Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine has confirmed that it will release a new chapter of Mochizuki Jun’s Vanitas no Carte (ヴァニタスの手記(カルテ)/ The Case Study of Vanitas) manga in its August 2025 issue, available for sale from July 22nd, 2025.
The manga has been on hiatus since early 2024, with the last chapter having been published in May 2024. Previously, the manga was also on hiatus from June 2022 to May 2023.
Manga author Mochizuki (Pandora Hearts, Crimson-Shell) started the supernatural manga in December 2015 in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine, and Square Enix published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in April 2016 and the 11th volume in April 2024.
Yen Press publishes the manga in English under the name The Case Study of Vanitas, and it released the 11th volume in April 2025. Yen Press describes the manga’s first volume below:
“Rumours revolving around The Book of Vanitas, a clockwork grimoire of dubious reputation, draw Noé, a young vampire in search of a friend’s salvation, to Paris. What awaits him in the City of Flowers, however, is not long hours treading the pavement or rifling through dusty bookshops in search of the tome. Instead, his quarry comes to him…in the arms of a man claiming to be a vampire doctor! Thrust into a conflict that threatens the peace between humans and vampires, will Noé cast in his lot with the curious and slightly unbalanced Vanitas and his quest to save vampirekind?”
Due to the manga’s popularity, it was green-lit for a TV anime. The anime’s first part premiered in July 2021, and the second part debuted in January 2022. All 24 episodes are available for streaming on the Crunchyroll website under the English title The Case Study of Vanitas.
