Minamikawa Tatsuma (Fire Force TV 2, Wave, Listen to Me!) is directing the anime at Project No.9 studio. The anime will star Chiba Shouya as Kai, Ichinose Kana as Rinne, and Shiraishi Haruka as Jeanee.
The anime is based on the light novel series of the same name by Sazane Kei (Kami wa Game ni Ueteiru, Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Arui wa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen, Sekai no Owari no Encore) and illustrator neco. Kadokawa released the first novel in the series in July 2017; the ninth and final novel was published in August 2020.
The novels also inspired a manga adaptation by Arikan, which was published in February 2018 in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine. The manga was released in Japan under the title Naze Boku no Sekai o Dare mo Oboeteinai no ka? and in the West under the English title Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? Kadokawa released the manga’s first tankoubon volume in June 2018 and the 10th volume in September 2023.
“Why doesn’t anyone remember the real world…!”
It was a time when a great war between five races fighting for supremacy on earth ended in victory for humanity, led by the hero Cid. However, that world was suddenly “overwritten” in front of Kai’s eyes. In the rewritten world, Kai saw a version in which humans lost the Great War of the Five Races due to the absence of the hero Cid – here, dragons and demons ruled the earth. However, when he meets the mysterious girl Rinne, Kai decides to break this rewritten fate. In a world without heroes, he inherits the sword and martial arts of the hero (Cid) and challenges the powerful enemy race that reigns.
