Staff for the Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru (片田舎のおっさん、剣聖になる /From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman) have revealed a new promotional video and Key visual for the show’s second season. The video confirms that the anime will premiere on July 8th, 2026, on TV Asahi and its affiliated channels at 11:45 p.m. JST.

Kazumi Akio (Hitoribotchi no Isekai Kouryaku, Souten no Ken REGENESIS) returns as the director for the anime at Passione studio and Hayabusa Film. Kazumi directed the anime’s first season at Passione studio and Hayabusa Film, and it premiered on April 5th, 2025, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
The anime is based on the light novel series Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru: Tada no Inaka no Kenjutsu Shihan Datta noni, Taisei Shita Deshitachi ga Ore o Houttekurenai Ken (From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now, and They Won’t Leave Me Alone/片田舎のおっさん、剣聖になる ～ただの田舎の剣術師範だったのに、大成した弟子たちが俺を放ってくれない件～) written by Sagazaki Shigeru and illustrated by Nabeshima Tetsuhiro.
Sagazaki started the original story in November 2020 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website, and Square Enix published the first novel, with illustrations by Nabeshima, in April 2021 and the 10th novel in December 2025.
J-Novel Club publishes the novels in English under the name From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now, and They Won’t Leave Me Alone. It released the ninth novel digitally in January 2026.

Satou Kazuki started the manga adaptation of the novel series in August 2021 in Akita Shoten’s Dokodemo Young Champion magazine. Akita Shoten published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in February 2022 and the eighth volume in December 2025. The ninth volume is scheduled for release on June 26th, 2026.
Yen Press releases the manga in English under the title From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman, and it will release the manga’s sixth volume on September 22nd, 2026.
