A new teaser video for the TV anime Tono to Inu (The Lord and The Dog) was released this week, and the show’s official Twitter account confirmed that the anime will premiere in October 2024.

The anime is based on the Tono to Inu (The Lord and The Dog) manga by Nishida Rie. Manga artist Nishida first published the manga in March 2021 in Flex Comix’s Comic Polaris manga service, and Flex Comix released the manga’s first tankoubon volume in September 2022. The manga’s third volume was released in February 2024.

The manga is set in Japan’s Warring States period. It follows Tono, a man who was once a fearful samurai on the battlefield but has fallen into poverty and a dog that he picks up despite his inadequate daily life. Tono is pushed around by the dog, who does not listen to him and spends his time freely and unrestrainedly.
