Yoshizaki Joe (Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu) is directing the anime at Makaria Inc. studio, and the anime will star Sakata Shougo as Zenos, Hanai Miharu as Lily, and Hikasa Youko as Carmilla.
The anime is based on the light novel series written by Hishikawa Sakaku and illustrated by Daburyu.
Hishikawa (Chainsaw Man: Buddy Stories) started the story in late 2020 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou! website, and the first novel was released in October 2021. SB Creative published the sixth novel with illustrations by Daburyu (Kyuutei Mahou-shi Kubi ni Nattande, Maou ni Natta-Node Dungeon Tsukutte Jingai-Musume to Hono-Bono Suru) in March 2024, and it will release the seventh novel on November 15th, 2024.
The light novels also inspired a manga adaptation by Junoichi Ten, which was published on the Piccoma website in January 2022. The manga’s first tankoubon volume was released in August 2022, and the fourth volume will be released on November 15th, 2024.
J-Novel Club publishes both the manga adaptation and the novel series in English. It published the manga’s second volume in March 2024, and it will release the fifth novel on December 20th, 2024.
Life hasn’t been kind to Zenos. He was born in the slums, and his dirt-poor background has denied him almost every opportunity. After an encounter with a healer, he throws himself into studying to become one and finally catches a break when an adventurer invites Zenos into his party. Zenos is so thrilled that he’s willing to put up with his teammates treating him like garbage. They fail to appreciate his talents and ultimately kick him to the curb, claiming he’s outlived his usefulness to them.
Now bereft of money and out of options, Zenos decides to use his self-taught skills elsewhere and opens an underground clinic. Word quickly spreads about the brilliant healer working incredible magic in the city’s shadowy underbelly. Even the royal palace is taking notice.
Can Zenos buck the odds and carve out a life for himself in a world that’s done nothing but spit in his face? And can he save the lives of the patients who wind up on his doorstep?
