The official website for the Oukami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf (Spice & Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) TV anime has confirmed that the anime’s second season will debut in 2027, and it revealed a new teaser visual.
Sanpei Hijiri will direct the anime’s second season at Passione studio, and Takahashi Takeo will act as chief director.
The anime’s first season premiered in April 2024, and all 25 episodes can be streamed on the Crunchyroll website. Crunchyroll describes the anime below:
“Lawrence is a traveling merchant selling various goods from a horse-drawn cart. One day, he arrives at a village and meets a beautiful girl with the ears and tail of an animal! Her name is Holo the Wisewolf and she brings bountiful harvests. She wishes to return to her homeland, and Lawrence offers to take her. Now, the once-lonely merchant and the once-lonely wisewolf begin their journey north.”
While the anime tells a completely new story, it is based on the Oukami to Koushinryou (Spice & Wolf /狼と香辛料) light novel series by Hasekura Isuna and Ayakura Juu. The first novel in the series, written by Hasekura and illustrated by Ayakura, was published in February 2006, and the latest novel, number 24, was released in January 2023.
The original novel series inspired various manga adaptations and spinoffs, TV anime adaptations and OVAs. Hasekura also began a spinoff novel series in April 2016 titled Shinsetsu Oukami to Koushinryou Oukami to Youhishi (Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf ).
Yen Press publishes both the original novel series under the name Spice and Wolf and the sequel series under the name Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf in English. The publisher released the 24th novel in the original novel series in August 2023, and it released the 12th novel in the Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf series on August 11th, 2026.
