Itoso Kenji is directing the anime at Satelight studios in collaboration with Yanchester studios, and the anime will star:
- Kamenashi Kazuya as Shizuku Kanzaki
- Satou Takuya as Issei Tomine
- Uchida Maaya as Miyabi Shinohata
- Ginga Banjou as Yutaka Kanzaki
Pony Canyon describes the anime’s story below:
“World-renowned wine critic Yutaka Kanzaki has passed away, leaving behind a wine collection worth over 12 billion yen. His will states that his collection will be given to the one who can identify the origin and year of twelve wines he’s chosen, the “Twelve Apostles”, and one that’s superior even to them, “The Drops of God”. Competing for the prize are Yutaka’s son, Shizuku, who received a world-class education in wine but rebelled against his father and has never drank a drop, and Issei Tomine, a young, charismatic wine critic whom Yutaka had recently adopted as his son.”
What is wine? What is a parent and a child? What is life?
The complex and fragrant battle surrounding the legendary “Drops of God” is about to begin…”
Agi and Okimoto started the original manga story in November 2004 in Kodansha’s Morning magazine and ended it in June 2014. Kodansha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in March 2005 and the 44th and final volume in July 2014.

The manga has been officially translated into English, Chinese, French, and Portuguese. Kodansha USA has released all 44 manga volumes digitally in English under the name The Drops of God, and it will also release an omnibus print version of the manga. The first omnibus volume was released on November 18th, 2025, and the second volume is scheduled for January 13th, 2026.
Kodansha USA describes the manga below:
” When world-renowned wine critic Kanzaki passes away, his will reveals that his fortune of a wine collection isn’t bequeathed as a matter of course to his only son, who in a snub went to work sales at a beer company. To come into the inheritance, Shizuku must identify—in competition with a stellar young critic—twelve heaven-sent wines whose impressions the will describes in flowing terms …”

The original manga inspired a Japanese live-action TV series in 2009 titled Kami no Shizuku, and a live-action series in 2023 titled Drops of God, which was multilingual and internationally co-produced. It was announced in 2024 that the series would be getting a second season, and it has now been revealed that the new season will premiere on Apple TV on January 21st, 2026.
