Shogakukan’s Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine has confirmed that the Kyou no Sanponta (今日のさんぽんた) manga by Taoka Riki will end with its next chapter, in the magazine’s February 2026 issue, available for sale on January 9th, 2026.
Taoka started the manga in April 2020 in Shogakukan’s Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine, and Shogakukan published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in October 2020. The manga’s 11th volume was released in August 2025. The story follows the dog Ponta and his owner, Rieko.

The manga was adapted into a Japanese live-action TV series in February 2025. The series follows Rieko, a carefree and somewhat absent-minded university student. While on walks, Rieko often complains to her dog Ponta, but the sharp-tongued Shiba Inu responds with a retort in his mind. Unfortunately, Rieko has no way of knowing what Ponta is thinking, and the one-way conversations between Ponta and Rieko continue on every walk.
