Flex Comix has announced this week that the manga Tono to Inu (The Lord and The Dog) by Nishida Rie has been green-lit for an anime adaptation. To commemorate the announcement, Nishida drew the illustration below.
Nishida first published the manga in March 2021 in Flex Comix’s Comic Polaris manga service, and Flex Comix will publish the manga’s third tankoubon volume on February 15, 2024.
The manga is set in Japan’s Warring States period. It follows Tono, a man who was once a fearful samurai on the battlefield but has fallen into poverty and a dog that he picks up despite his inadequate daily life. Tono is pushed around by the dog, who does not listen to him and spends his time freely and unrestrainedly.
