HERO’S INC’s Comiplex manga website confirmed last week that the manga Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) by Fujisawa Tohru will get a new spinoff manga titled GTU: Ikari no Death Yamada (Great Teacher Uchiyamada: Fury of Death Yamada). The new manga by Fujisawa will start serialization on October 18th, 2024.
The story follows Uchiyamada Hiroshi, who works as the vice principal at Tokyo Kissho Gakuen. Uchiyamada is a middle-management teacher who is caught between his subordinates and his students. One summer day, Uchiyamada visits Kabukicho in search of Nanami, a student who has run away from home. This is the beginning of the grand nightmare that will befall him!
Fujisawa (Kamen Teacher, Rose Hip Rose, Soul Reviver, Ino-Head Gargoyle) started the original Great Teacher Onizuka manga in 1997. Kodansha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in May 1997 and the 25th volume in April 2002.
Since the end of the original manga, Fujisawa has created several spinoffs such as Great Teacher Onizuka: Shonan 14 Days in 2009, Great Transporter Ryuji (GT-R) in 2012, and GTO: Paradise Lost in 2014. Due to the popularity of the original manga and its spinoffs, it has inspired TV anime shows and several live-action adaptations.
