A teaser visual has also been revealed, along with illustrations by Arai, the manga’s creator, and by Ishihama Masashi, the anime’s director.

Ishihama directs the anime at CloverWorks, and the anime will star Kitou Akari as Aya Osawa and Ise Mariya as Mitsuki Koga
Arai started the Yuri manga on their Twitter account in April 2022 and began serialising it on Pixie Comic in April 2023. Kadokawa published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in April 2023 and the fourth volume in February 2026.

Yen Press released the manga in English under the name The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All, and it published the fourth volume on October 27th, 2026. It describes the story below:
“Fashionable and upbeat high schooler Aya falls head over heels for an employee at a local CD shop. He’s got an air of mystery about him, great style, and impeccable musical taste. Little does she know—this supposedly male employee is actually her female classmate, Mitsuki! Mitsuki generally keeps to herself, but since her seat is right next to Aya’s, she can’t help but be extremely aware of the other’s crush. Revealing the truth is out of the question for Mitsuki—but perhaps getting closer to Aya wouldn’t be so bad…”
