Pony Canyon has confirmed that the Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story (赤ずきん、旅の途中で死体と出会う。) light novel by Aoyagi Aito will be adapated into a TV anime which will premiere in 2027. A teaser trailer and teaser visual have been revealed.

Kawasaki Itsurou is directing the anime at Benten Film studios, and the anime will star Miyamoto Yume as Red Riding Hood and Sekine Akira as Pinocchio. Pony Canyon describes the anime’s story:
“On the outskirts of town lived a girl called “Red Riding Hood.”
One day, she found herself forced to embark on a journey for a certain purpose.
Strangely enough, however, she kept getting swept up in incident after incident along the way.
Using her innate curiosity and clever mind, Red Riding Hood set about solving each mystery.
“Why is your criminal plan so sloppy?”
This is the world of a fairy tale everyone knows—.”
Futabasha published Aoyagi’s novel in August 2020, and Tanakanoka (Koi no Torikata, Sumikko no Sora-san, Tabi to Michidure) adapted the novel into a manga in January 2023 in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine. Futabasha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in August 2023 and the fourth and final volume in June 2025.
Futabasha describes the manga’s story below:
“A complete comic adaptation of the much-talked-about mystery novel! During one journey, Little Red Riding Hood encounters a dead body! Will she be able to brilliantly solve this case, full of tricks based on fairy tales such as “Cinderella” and “Hansel and Gretel”? The journey of the great detective Little Red Riding Hood begins.”
The novel was also adapted into a live-action film for Netflix Japan in September 2023. The film’s English title is Once Upon a Crime.
