The Magical Explorer – Eroge no Yuujin Chara ni Tensei Shita kedo, Game Chishiki Tsukatte Jiyuu ni Ikiru (Magical Explorer: Reborn as a Side Character in a Fantasy Dating Sim/ マジカル★エクスプローラー エロゲの友人キャラに転生 したけど、ゲーム知識使って自由に生きる) light novel series by Iris and Kannatsuki Noboru has been green-lit for a TV anime adaptation in Autumn of 2026. A teaser video and visual have been revealed for the anime.

Ohashi Kazuki is directing the anime at WHITE FOX studios, and Shimazaki Nobunaga will star as Kosuke Takioto.
Author Iris started the story in February 2018 on the Shosetsuka ni Narou website, and Kadokawa published the first novel in November 2019 with illustrations by Kannatsuki. The series’s 13th novel will be released on April 1st, 2026.
Higa Yukari adapted the story into a manga in August 2020 in Kadokawa’s Young Ace Up magazine, and Kadokawa published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in March 2021. The manga’s third volume was released in January 2026.
Yen Press publishes both the light novels and manga adaptation in English under the name Magical Explorer: Reborn as a Side Character in a Fantasy Dating Sim. It released the 11th novel on March 17th, 2026 and the manga’s second volume in January 2025. Yen Press describes the novel story below:
“In this world, people known as Informationists sell their supernatural abilities for use in armed conflicts. When Tsushima Rindou, an ordinary Informationist, agrees to help a fallen noble named Holy defect from the Balga Empire, he isn’t expecting anything other than a typical escort mission.
