The first tankoubon volume of the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Kyuuten-hen (The Irregular at Magic High School: Sudden Turn of Events/魔法科高校の劣等生 急転編) manga by Mitsuna Kitaumi was released on July 27th, 2026.
The manga is an adapation of the 27th novel of Satou Tsutomu’s Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School/魔法科高校の劣等生 ) light novel series.
The original novel series written by Tsutomu and illustrated by Ishida Kana started in 2008 and ended in September 2020 with its 32nd novel. Kadokawa released the series’s 27th novel in December 2018.
Yen Press publishes the novel series in English under the name The Irregular at Magic High School, and it will release the 27th novel on September 8th, 2026. Yen Press described the 27th novel below:
“As Minoru and the parasites continue their infectious escapades, Tatsuya is hard at work on his typeless magic—the sealing orb. If perfected, it could be used to capture parasites in a single move. Meanwhile, the war between the Great Asian Alliance and the New Soviet Union comes to a head, and the Soviets begin moving to invade Japan. The light novel series received a TV anime adaptation in April 2014 titled The Irregular at Magic High School, which was followed by a second season in October 2020 and a third season in April 2024. Some of the anime seasons are available to stream on the Crunchyroll website.
The franchise also inspired an anime film in June 2017, titled The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars.
