Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine has confirmed that the Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End/ 葬送のフリーレン) manga by Yamada Kanehito and Abe Tsukasa will return from hiatus in the magazine’s 34th issue of 2025, available for sale from July 23rd, 2025.

Yamada and Abe started the manga in April 2020 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine, and Shogakukan published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in August 2020. The latest volume to be released was number 14 in March 2025. The manga went on hiatus in May 2024 and returned in August 2024, before going on its current hiatus in January 2025.

Viz Media publishes the manga in English under the name Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and it released the manga’s 13th volume in May 2025. It describes the manga below:

“Decades after their victory, the funeral of one of her friends confronts Frieren with her own near immortality. Frieren sets out to fulfil the last wishes of her comrades and finds herself beginning a new adventure…”

The manga was adapted into an anime, which premiered in September 2023, and it has been green-lit for a second season in January 2026.

The anime’s first season can be streamed on Crunchyroll now, and Crunchyroll will stream the anime’s second season as it airs. The company describes the anime below:

“After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity’s mortality. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill old friends’ dying wishes.
