Staff for the Chainsmoker Cat (ヤニねこ) anime has revealed a new key visual and confirmed that the anime will premiere on July 2nd, 2026, at 24:30 (effectively, July 3rd at 12:30 a.m.) on the Tokyo MX and BS11 channels.
Kimura Taku is directing the anime at Bibury Animation Studio, and the anime will star Natsuyoshi Yuuko as Yaniko Satou. Newly confirmed cast members are listed below:
- Matsuoka Misato as Yaku Neko
- Funato Yurie as Hame Neko
- Shimizu Ayaka as Kansai Neko
- Izawa Shiori as Al Neko
- Akechi Riko as Tatsuro Ochinpo
- Inada Tetsu as Landlord
The anime is based on Nyan Nyan Factory’s Yanineko (Chainsmoker Cat/ ヤニねこ) manga. Nyan Nyan Factory started the manga in February 2023 in Kodansha’s Young Magazine, and Kodansha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in August 2023. The manga’s 11th volume was released in February 2026.
Seven Seas Entertainment releases the manga in English under the title Chainsmoker Cat, and it will release the manga’s third volume on June 16th, 2026. Seven Seas described the manga’s story below:
“Welcome to Yani’s apartment. Please don’t mind the smell. Yani is a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit. Every time she tries to quit, she becomes weak to the cravings and gives in almost instantly.
Behind on her rent and unable to hold down a job, her friends and sister rally around to help her out. But when she’s using her pee to put out cigarette fires, they may just have their work cut out for them.
Will she ever get her life together, or is she doomed to live as a chainsmoking slob forever?”
