The anime is an adaptation of the Bye Bye, Earth light novel series by Ubakata Tow (Fafner: Dead Aggressor, Mardock Scramble). The fantasy story was first published in two novels in December 2000, with illustrations by Amano Yoshitaka (Arslan Senki, Vampire Hunter D). From 2007 to 2008, a new four-novel edition was released, with illustrations by Kim Hyung-Tae.
The novel’s story is set on an Earth where all people can take the form of animals. Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.
