Pony Canyon have confirmed that the TV anime Dark Gathering (ダークギャザリング ) has been green-lit for a second season, and it released a new visual.
Hiroshi Ikehata, who directed the anime’s first season at OLM studios, is returning to direct the anime’s second season, and the anime will star:
- Sasahara Yu as Yayoi Hozuki
- Shimazaki Nobunaga as Keitaro Gentoga
- Hanazawa Kana as Eiko Hozuki
- Kawaguchi Rina as Ai Kamiyo
The anime’s first season premiered in July 2023, and Pony Canyon describes the anime’s story below:
“Keitaro Gentoga, a first-year student at Reiou University, once suffered from a spiritual affliction that caused harm to others and led him to shut himself away from society. In an effort to reintegrate, he begins working as a tutor—only to meet Yayoi Hozuki, a mysterious girl with unusual eyes.
Yayoi, who witnessed her mother’s soul being taken by an evil spirit after a car accident, spends her days visiting haunted locations in search of clues. Although Yayoi has strong spiritual power, spirits tend to avoid her—so she needs Keitaro, whose presence draws them in.
Meanwhile, Keitaro aims to break the curse that binds both himself and someone dear to him, forming an unlikely partnership with Yayoi. A wildly unique new-style occult horror begins here!”

The anime is based on Kondou Kenichi’s Dark Gathering manga, which began serialisation in March 2019 on Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine. Shueisha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in June 2019 and the 18th volume in August 2025.
Viz Media releases the manga in English under the same name, and it will publish the 16th volume on November 4th, 2025. Viz Media describes the manga’s story below:
“Keitaro is ready to stop living as a shut-in. He’s starting university. He’s reconnecting with his childhood friend. He’s taking a tutoring job. And he’s not messing around with ghosts anymore.
