Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shounen Champion magazine confirmed last week that Kurumada Masami’s Saint Seiya: Next Dimension – Meiou Shinwa (Saint Seiya: Next Dimension – The Myth of Hades) prequel manga will end on July 4th, 2024, in the magazine’s 31st issue of this year.

Kurumada (Ring ni Kakero, Fuuma no Kojirou, B’tX) published the original Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) manga from 1986 to 1990, and Shueisha released the manga’s tankoubon volumes, starting with the first in September 1986 and ending with the 28th volume in April 1991. The story follows Seiya, a 13-year-old kid who has been training to get the title of Knight of Athena. Once he obtains the Pegasus’ bronze armor, he returns to Japan to participate in the Galactic Tournament, hoping his lost sister will watch him on TV. Soon, the story turns into a fight to protect humanity from the forces of evil under the protection of Saori Kido, Athena’s incarnation.

The original manga has inspired numerous anime projects, sequels, spinoffs, and prequels, including the Saint Seiya: Next Dimension – Meiou Shinwa manga, which Kurumada began in 2006.

Akita Publishing released Saint Seiya: Next Dimension – Meiou Shinwa’s first volume in February 2009 and the latest volume, number 15, on May 8th, 2024. The prequel’s story is set 240 years before the fierce battle between Seiya and Hades in Elysion. Another holy war was about to begin, tearing apart the bond between two boys bound by a passionate friendship!! A new galactic myth where the past and present intertwine.
