Akita Shoten’s Young Champion magazine confirmed this week that the TV anime adaptation of Shinasaka Kouji’s Touhai: Ura Rate Mahjong Touhai Roku manga will premiere in October 2024.

Hatori Jun (Kawaisugi Crisis, Taisho Otome Otogi Banashi) is directing the anime at East Fish Studio, and Young Champion magazine has confirmed that the anime will star Tanabe Kohsuke as Kei, Takeuchi Shunsuke as Toujima, and Ai Fairouz as Amina.

The anime is based on Shinasaka’s original manga, which ran from 2006 to 2011 in Akita Shoten’s Young Champion magazine. Akita Shoten published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in December 2006 and the last volume, number 12, in June 2011.

The manga franchise also includes the following sequels and spinoffs: Touhai: Hitobashira-hen, Touhai: Minagoroshi-hen, Haou Densetsu Lion, and Haou Kessen Lion. The Touhai: Cold Girl manga is the latest in the franchise and is currently ongoing.

The series follows Kei, also known as K of Ice, a high school boy who frequents the underground mahjong parlor teeming with money, women, organs, and desires. Despite facing various hardships, Kei navigates the underworld of mahjong while surviving.
