The manga Otome Youkai Zakuro (Demon Maiden Zakuro) will resume publication on January 26th, 2024, after a hiatus since October 2016. The news was announced last Friday on the official Twitter account for Gentosha’s Comic Boost manga website. An image was also posted earlier this month to announce the manga’s return.
Launched by Hoshino Lily (Kigurumi Guardians, Harem de Hitori, Lovekue) in Gentosha’s Comic Boost magazine in 2006, it ran until its hiatus in 2016. The manga’s latest tankoubon volume, volume 10, was published in 2015. The manga also inspired a 13-episode TV anime series which aired in 2010.
It’s the Meiji Era in a slightly alternate Japan, and the Gregorian calendar has just emerged. The fox-eared girls living in the youkai part of town are about to be put to work together with a delegation of young human soldiers to promote interracial understanding. So what will happen when Zakuro’s strong personality collides with human sensibilities?
