Pony Canyon has confirmed that the Chuuzenji-sensei Mononoke Kougiroku: Sensei ga Nazo o Toite Shimaukara (The Mononoke Journal by Chuzenji-sensei) manga by Shimizu Aki has been green-lit for an anime adaptation in 2025. Staff for the anime confirmed that the anime will be titled The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei: He Just Solves All the Mysteries, and they have also released a key visual for the anime.
Manga Creator Shimizu also drew an illustration to commemorate the anime announcement.
Kumano Chihiro will direct the anime at 100studio; Aka Atsushi will be in charge of series composition and scripts, while Suzuki Masahiko will be in charge of Character designs. Further details for the show will be released at later dates on the anime’s official website and Twitter account.
Shimizu started the manga in October 2019 in Kodansha’s Shounen Magazine Edge, and Kodansha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in July 2020 and the ninth volume in May 2024. The manga’s tenth volume will be released in Japan on October 8th, 2024. The manga is a spinoff and prequel to the Hyakki Yakou novel series by Kyogoku Natsuhito.
This story takes place before the exorcist Kyogokudo opened a used bookstore. It follows a female student named Kanna Kusakabe in 1948 Tokyo, just after the war. Kanna Kusakabe had just become a second-year at a high school when she met the new language teacher, Akihiko Chuzenji.
Mysterious supernatural things keep happening around Kanna, and once again, Kanna is going to open the doors to the library prep room to seek help from the surly Chuzenji-sensei, who is waiting inside. A high school supernatural mystery featuring the unlikely duo between a teacher and a high school girl is about to begin!
