Shueisha has revealed the cover for the first volume of Kawae Kouta’s Nue no Onmyouji, which is set to release on October 4, 2023. The manga began serialization on May 2023 on Weekly Shounen Jump, as well as the MANGA Plus website.
Kawae first debuted in 2019 with the Tabidachi no Yoru short story on Jump’s New World Manga Award. It was followed by four more in the following years, the latest of which was Nuenchi, which became the prototype for the current series.
Spirits are attracted to intense negative emotions, and when enough of them gather they coalesce and become capable of harming humans. Yajima Gakuro, who has been able to see spirits since a kid and lost his father to such an entity, knows this well, and even at his new school he tries to keep conflict down however he can. But one morning he goes up the wrong flight of stairs and makes a shocking discovery: sealed inside one of the rooms is a powerful female spirit, who introduced herself as “Nue”, like the chimeric creature of folklore.
She predicts a great surge of spirits to come and asks Gakuro to be her conduit to deal with them. Will Gakuro be up to the task, even with his traumatic past? And what about these onmyouji, Taoist masters, she mentioned working behind the scenes?
