Kadokawa first announced on March 17, 2023, an upcoming animated adaptation of Sunsun SUN’s light novel series Tokidoki Bosotto Roshia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san (or “RoshiDere” for short). Today the first key visual was finally revealed, along with the announcement that more details will be revealed during a special streaming event on November 7, 2023.

The anime is being produced by Douga Kobo (Anima Yell!, Houkago Teibou Nisshi, Mikakunin de Shinkoukei) and directed by Itou Ryouta (Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san, Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi) with Murota Yuuhei (Love Live! series) as the animation director. Uesaka Sumire (Dekomori from Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, Nagatoro from Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san, Shalltear from Overlord) and Amasaki Kouhei (Takaki Uno from Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Monoma\Phantom Thief from Boku no Hero Academia) voice the protagonists, reprising their roles from a previous drama CD.

Sunsun SUN originally published two short stories on May 6 and May 27, 2020, on Shousetsuka ni Narou, but very different from what would become the serialized novel. Kadokawa Shoten later approached Sunsun SUN to publish both stories, which then featured along with the serialized novel on their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint, with illustrations by Momoco, the first volume coming out on February 27, 2021. Yen Press licensed the series in English in 2022.

A one-shot manga, illustrated by Tapioca, was initially released in March 2021 to promote the first volume but was later followed by a serialized adaptation illustrated by Tenamachi Saho (Shousetsu no Kami-sama; Itsuka, Nemuri ni Tsuku Hi) on Kodansha‘s Magazine Pocket website on October 29, 2022. As of June 8, 2023, two tankoubon volumes have been released.

Alisa “Alya” Mikhailovna Kujou, Russian on her father’s side and Japanese on her mother’s is the top student of the already prestigious Seirei private academy. Beautiful as she is flawless both in academics and sports, she is just as unapproachable and a stickler for the rules. She is especially strict with her classmate and the school’s biggest underachiever Kuze Masachika, a huge otaku who stays up at night watching anime and often skips his duties to play gacha games on his phone. Most other students simply think his slovenly behaviour gets on her nerves, but the truth is she has something of a crush on him; and she will admit so in secret, whispering in her father’s tongue so that no one understands it… except that Kuze picked the language up from watching Russian movies with his grandfather, so he understands every word; not that he will ever admit it. Thus unfolds a lively romantic comedy of amusing back-and-forths and things left (un)said.

Also in today’s announcement, a new version of Alya’s Vtuber model, originally created in July 2021 to promote the release of the novel’s second volume, was revealed yesterday.
