Over a thousand years ago, a meteor shower known as "Ma pa nangu" devastated 75% of the Earth. The survivors rebuilt cities on large islands, ushering in a new era of peace that did not last long. Soon humans were born with superhuman abilities, the result of a gene activated by the meteorites. These individuals, called "gifted", ushered in a world divided between power and resistance.
