The September 2025 issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Dessert magazine published the final chapter of Morino Megumi’s Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai (A Condition Called Love/ 花野井くんと恋の病 ) manga on July 24th, 2025. In addition, it’s been announced that the series will get a spinoff manga in the January 2026 issue of the magazine.
Morino (Ohayou, Ibara Hime, My Fair Neighbor) launched the romance manga in December 2017 on Kodansha’s Monthly Dessert magazine, and Kodansha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in May 2018, and its 17th volume in May 2025. The manga’s 18th and final volume is scheduled for release on October 10th, 2025.
Kodansha USA Publishing releases the manga series in English under the name A Condition Called Love, and it released the manga’s 16th volume in April 2025. It describes the manga’s story below:
“Hotaru is a 16-year-old high school first-year who has always been ambivalent about love, preferring instead to have a lively life with her family and friends. So when she sees her schoolmate, Hananoi-kun, sitting in the snow after a messy, public breakup, she thinks nothing of offering to share her umbrella. But when he asks her out in the middle of her classroom the next day, she can’t help but feel that her life is about to change in a big way…”
The manga won the Best Shoujo Manga award in Kodansha’s 45th Manga Awards in 2021, and it inspired a TV animation, which premiered in April 2024.
