Manga artist Kusakabe Rei has started a manga adaptation of the Honzuki no Gekokujou ~Hannelore no Kizokuin Gonensei~ Koishite Mitai Ohime-sama (Ascendance of a Bookworm: Hannelore’s Fifth Year at the Royal Academy -The Princess I Want to Fall in Love With-) spinoff light novel series by Kazuki Miya.
The manga adaptation started on September 22nd 2025, on TO Books Corona EX manga website, and TO Books has already scheduled the release of the manga’s first tankoubon volume for December 10th, 2025.
Author Kazuki started the original story, Honzuki no Gekokujou – Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen (Ascendance of a Bookworm – I’ll do anything to become a librarian) in 2013 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website. TO Books published the first novel with illustrations by Shiina You in January 2015, and the 33rd and final novel in December 2023.
Kazuki started the ongoing spinoff novel series, Honzuki no Gekokujou ~Hannelore no Kizokuin Gonensei~ Koishite Mitai Ohime-sama, in 2017 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website. TO Books released the first novel with illustrations by Shiina in August 2025, and the second volume in August 2025.
J-Novel Club released the first novel in the spinoff series, in English under the name Ascendance of a Bookworm: Hannelore’s Fifth Year at the Royal Academy. It describes the story below:
“Half a year has passed since Yurgenschmidt inaugurated its first underage aub. Hannelore, now an archduke candidate for the country’s top-ranked duchy, is in the midst of a crisis. Despite her natural indecisiveness, she finds herself pressed to choose from a growing list of marriage candidates. Her father suggests Kenntrips and Rasantark—her childhood friends—but then her half-brother Raufereg throws his hat into the ring. And what about Wilfried, the apple of her eye? Convinced that Liebeskhilfe, the Goddess of Binding, is toying with the threads of her fate, Hannelore turns to her dear friend Rozemyne for guidance.”
The Honzuki no Gekokujou – Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen original novel series was adapted into a TV anime, which premiered in October 2019 and has three seasons. All three seasons are available to stream on the Crunchyroll website under the name Ascendance of a Bookworm. A new anime, adapting the third part of the original novel series, will premiere in Spring 2026.
