Ononaka started the manga in March 2019 in Takeshobo’s Life Storia magazine, and in July 2019, the manga moved to Takeshobo’s Storia Dash website. Takeshobo published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in November 2019 and the manga’s 11th volume in January 2024. The manga series entered a hiatus in March 2024 due to Ononaka’s health.
J-Novel Club releases the manga in English under the name Gushing Over Magical Girls, and it published the manga’s 11th volume in February 2025. J-Novel Club describes the manga’s story below:
“Hi, I’m Hiiragi Utena. I’m a normal magical-girl-loving middle school girl—or at least I was, but then some talking mascot showed up out of the blue and cast a spell on me! Now’s my chance to join my beloved magical girls as…a villain? Hang on, something’s wrong with my outfit! This can’t be happening! Watch this shy magical-girl fan transform into a sadistic dominatrix! When good and evil collide, who will be the one to submit?!”
The manga was adapted into a TV anime in January 2024. The anime had three versions: the one shown on TV, the “gushing” version available for streaming services, and the “ultra-gushing” version only available on Blu-ray Disc and DVD.
The anime may be available to stream on HIDIVE and Amazon Prime Video, depending on the viewer’s region. It was announced in October 2024 that the anime had been green-lit for a second season.
