The official Twitter account for The Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End/ 葬送のフリーレン) manga by Yamada Kanehito and Abe Tsukasa has announced that the manga will go on hiatus, citing the need to ensure the continued quality of the story and the creators’ health.

The manga, which is serialised in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, will still release a new chapter in this week’s issue, released on October 15th, but will go on hiatus beginning October 22nd, 2025. The series was previously on hiatus from January to July 2025, and prior to that, it had two extended periods of hiatus: from May to August 2024 and from January to March 2023.

Yamada and Abe started the manga in April 2020 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine, and Shogakukan published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in August 2020. The 14th volume was released in March 2025, and the manga’s 15th volume is scheduled for release on December 18th, 2025.

Viz Media publishes the manga in English under the name Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and it released the manga’s 13th volume in May 2025. It describes the manga below:

“Decades after their victory, the funeral of one of her friends confronts Frieren with her own near immortality. Frieren sets out to fulfil the last wishes of her comrades and finds herself beginning a new adventure…”

The manga was adapted into an anime, which premiered in September 2023, and the anime’s second season will premiere on January 16th, 2026.

The first season can be streamed on Crunchyroll now, and Crunchyroll will stream the anime’s second season as it airs. The company describes the anime below:
