Kadokawa has released the first promotional video and key visual for the second season of the Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru (The Detective Is Already Dead/ 探偵はもう、死んでいる) TV anime. The new season will debut in October 2026, after being delayed from its initial release date of July 2026.

The anime’s first season premiered in July 2021, and it was directed by Kurihara Manabu at ENGI studios. Kurihara returns as the director for the second season, and Kadokawa has confirmed that Miyashita Saki will return as Siesta and will also voice the new character, Noches.
The returning cast includes:
- Nagai Arata as Kimihiko Kimizuka
- Taketatsu as Nagisa Natsunagi
- Takao Kanon as Yui Saikawa
- Shirasu Saho as Charlotte Arisaka Anderson
The first season of the anime is available to stream on the Crunchyroll website under the name The Detective Is Already Dead, and it describes the anime story below:
“After thwarting a hijacking with beautiful, silver-haired detective Siesta, Kimihiko leads a life of globe-trotting and crime-solving—until Siesta dies. A year later, a new case will open old wounds as it threads murder, conspiracy, and his dead partner!”
The anime is based on the Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru light novel series by author nigozyu and illustrator Umibouzu. Kadokawa published the first novel in November 2019 and the 13th novel in July 2025.
The novel series was adapated into a manga by Mugiko from May 2020 to October 2023 in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine. Kadokawa published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in November 2020 and the sixth and final volume in October 2023.
Yen Press releases the novel series and manga adaptation in English under the name The Detective Is Already Dead. It has released all six volumes of the manga, and it will release the 12th novel in the light novel series on August 11th, 2026.
