Higashigawa Tokuya’s Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de (The Dinner Table Detective) novel series has been green-lit for a TV anime adaptation in 2025. The anime’s official website revealed a teaser visual, a commemorative comment by Higashigawa, and it confirmed that manga creator Tachibana Oreko (Hotaru no Yomeiri, Promise Cinderella) will design the original characters for the anime.

Higashigawa started the story in 2007, and Shogakukan published the first novel in September 2010 and the third novel in December 2012. In 2021, Higashihawa started a sequel to the novel series titled Shin Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de. Shogakukan released the first novel in March 2021, with illustrations by Nakamura Yuusuke, and the second novel in September 2024.

Kawase Aya (Akuyaku Reijou wa Nido Shinu) adapted the Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de novel series into a manga from May 2011 to May 2012 in the Petit Comic. Shogakukan published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in November 2011 and the second volume in August 2012.

The story takes place in Kunitachi, Tokyo, where Reiko Houshou, daughter of the world-famous Houshou Group owner, has become a rookie detective. Her boss is Inspector Kazamatsuri, the son of the owner of Kazamatsuri Motors and the two work together to solve complex cases. When tackling her cases, Reiko always consults her butler and driver, Kageyama, who always brilliantly manages to solve the case.
