Crucially, there have been several key staff changes. The new animation studio is 8bit (Yama no Susume, Infinite Stratos), replacing the previous studio C-Station. Tosaka Shin (Infinite Stratos 2) took over Kyougoku Yoshiaki as the director and Sugiura Masafumi (Uma Musume) replaced Tanaka Jin as the scriptwriter, while Hashimoto Hisanori (key animator for Attack on Titan and Guilty Crown) replaced Sasaki Mutsumi as the character designer, providing a look closer to the original manga by Afro. On the other hand, composer Tateyama Akiyuki (Kemono Friends) and sound director Takadera Takeshi are confirmed in their roles. The update also revealed musical unit Kiminone and singer Asaka are performing the opening and ending themes, respectively.
Afro began working on the series for Houbunsha‘s Manga Time Kirara Forward in July 2015, until it was transferred to the new website Comic Fuz in 2019. 14 tankoubon volumes have been released as of November 10, 2022. An episodic spin-off titled Heya Camp has also been serialized by Houbunsha on Kirara Base starting on April 9, 2016, and on Comic Fuz since March 12, 2019. Yen Press has licensed the main series in North America, with the first volume released in March 2018.
