Staff for the Pen to Wappa to Jijitsu Kon (A Pen, Handcuffs, and a Common-Law Marriage/ ペンと手錠と事実婚 ) TV anime have revealed a teaser promotional video, a teaser visual and confirmed that the anime will premiere in January 2027.

Ishiyama Takaaki is directing the anime at EMT Square, and the anime will star Maeno Tomoaki as Eiji Kirisame and Minase Inori as Tsugumi Kuchinashi.
The anime is based on the Pen to Wappa to Jijitsu Kon manga by Sawaragi Shinichi and Gasuyama Tanku. Author Sawaragi and artist Gasuyama started the manga in December 2022 in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine, and Hakusensha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in August 2023. The manga’s seventh volume was released in April 2026.
Yen Press releases the manga in English under the name A Pen, Handcuffs, and a Common-Law Marriage, and it will release the manga’s second volume on September 22nd, 2026. Yen Press describes the manga story below:
“Forty-year-old detective Eiji Kirisame has found maybe the strangest witness of his life: a silent high school girl named Tsugumi Kuchinashi who was at the scene of the crime. Her statements mostly consist of shoddy doodles on a drawing pad, but Eiji is no stranger to piecing together the truth from limited evidence—and besides, it seems like Tsugumi might have a knack for deduction! So he’ll take every page seriously if it might help solve the case. But, uh, does that last page really say…“Marry me?”?!”
