Sakurai Tsukasa is directing the anime at Tsumugi Akita Anime Lab, and the anime will star Tazawa Masumi as Eliane and Yashiro Taku as Nigel.
The anime is an adaptation of the light novel series of the same name by Utsuzawa Shikiso. Author Utsuzawa started the original story in June 2020 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website, and Kodansha published the first novel with illustrations by Pukynosuke in January 2021. The series’s seventh novel was released in December 2024.
Matsu began the manga adaptation in April 2021 in Kodansha’s Palcy app, and Kodansha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in October 2021. The manga’s 13th volume was released in July 2026.
K Manga and Kodansha USA Publishing release the manga adaptation in English under the name Because I, the True Saint, was Banished, that Country is Done For!. Kodansha USA will release the manga’s 11th volume on December 5th, 2026, and it describes the manga story below:
“Ever since she was a child, Eliane has been the saint and protector of the Kingdom of Belkheim, warding off monsters and ensuring bountiful harvests with her prayers. But when a pretender saint beguiles the foolish prince—to whom she is engaged—into believing she is nothing but a fraud, he calls off the marriage and banishes her from the kingdom.
