Watase Yuu (Ayashi no Ceres, Arata Kangatari) launched the manga in August 2017 in the Monthly Flowers magazine, and Shogakukan published the manga’s first volume in April 2018. In August 2018, the manga went on hiatus due to Watase’s poor health and has remained on hiatus since.
The original manga Fushigi Yuugi was published by Watase in Shogakukan’s Shojo Comic magazine from 1992 to 1996, and Shogakukan released 18 tankoubon volumes. The manga inspired a TV anime series in 1995 and three original video anime series. The TV anime and the three OVA are available to watch on Crunchyroll.
Watase published Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden manga from 2003 to 2013 and a 51-page one-shot manga titled Fushigi Yuugi: Byakko Ibun in February 2015.
