This week, a new promotional video for the Tasogare Out Focus (Twilight Out of Focus) TV anime began streaming. The PV confirms that the anime will premiere in July 2024.

Watanabe Toshinori (Tokyo Ghoul:re, Fairy Tail: 1oo Years Quest) is directing the anime at Studio DEEN, and the anime will star:
- Furukawa Mokoto as Zin Kikuchihara
- Nakazawa Masatomo as Giichi Ichikawa
- Uchida Yuuma as Hisashi Otomo
- Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as Mao Tsuchiya
- Eguchi Takuya as Rei Inaba
- Saitou Souma as Shion Yoshino
The anime is an adaptation of the manga by Jyanome, launched in 2019 in Kodansha’s Honey Milk digital boys love magazine. Kodansha released the manga’s only tankoubon volume in June 2019, and Kodansha USA released the manga digitally in March 2022.
Jyanome released four spinoff manga after the original story. In 2020 Kodansha released Zanzou Slow Motion (Twilight Out of Focus 2: Afterimages in Slow Motion) followed by Tasogare Out Focus Overlap (Twilight Out of Focus 3:Overlap) in August 2020.
In June 2021, the fourth manga was released, titled Yoiyoi Monologues (Twilight Out of Focus 4: The Evening Monologues), and the fifth and latest manga was released in July 2023, titled Tasogare Out Focus Long Take (Twilight Out of Focus Long Take).
Film enthusiast Mao Tsuchiya and his lone wolf roommate Hisashi Otomo make three promises:
That Mao will never tell anyone that Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend.
That Hisashi will never approach Mao “in that way.”
That they’ll respect each other’s “private time.”
They had no problems living together until the movie club – which Mao is part of – decided to film a BL movie for their school festival project, casting Hisashi for the lead role.
