Kadokawa’s monthly Dengeki Daioh magazine confirmed that Satou Tsutomu’s spinoff novel Mahouka: Yoru no Tobari ni Yami wa Hirameku (The Irregular at Magic High School: Darkness Flashes Across the Curtain of Night) is getting a manga adaptation by Oukawa Yoshiyuki. The manga will start serializing in the magazine’s July 2024 issue and will be available for sale on May 27th, 2024.

The original novel series, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School), by Tsutomu and illustrated by Ishida Kana, started in 2008 and ended in September 2020 with its 32nd novel. Two sequels were released in October 2020 and January 2021, respectively, before Tsutomu and Ishida released the spinoff novel Mahouka: Yoru no Tobari ni Yami wa Hirameku in August 2023.

The original light novel series received a TV anime adaptation in April 2014 titled The Irregular at Magic High School, this was followed by a second season in October 2020 titled The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc. A third season of the anime debuted recently on April 5th, 2024.

The franchise also inspired an anime film in June 2017, titled The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars.
