Author Ukai Yuushi and illustrator Nekometal’s Shibou Yuugi de Meshi o Kuu (Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table) light novel series has been green-lit for a TV anime adaptation.

Kadokawa released the first novel by Ukai and Nekometal in November 2022 and the sixth in April 2024. The seventh novel in the series will be published in Japan on September 25th, 2024. The novels are also released in English by Yen Press, and they will publish the second novel on October 29th, 2024.
The light novel series won the Excellence Award at the 18th MF Bunko J Light Novel Newcomer Award in 2022, and in 2024, it was ranked first in the New Title category of Takarajimahs’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings.
The Shibou Yuugi de Meshi o Kuu novels were also adapted into a manga in April 2023 by manga artist Kotobuki Daienkai Banzai. The manga started serialization in Kodokawa’s Comic Ace magazine, and Kadokawa published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in December 2023 and the second in July 2024.
Yuuki wakes up to find herself wearing a maid’s uniform in a strange manor house. After wandering into the dining room, she comes across five other girls, each in the exact same outfit. Soon, the girls learn that the manor is brimming with lethal weapons and an array of deadly traps…and that they can only escape by playing the most gruesome of games.
