(4.9)

For thousands of years, The Watch has protected innocents from the onslaught of Revenants, monsters born of wandering spirits who can’t move on, latching onto whatever living thing they can. Aullie is a new Watcher, but she is no stranger to tragedy. In order to save others from the same heartbreak, she makes a pact with her Ancestor Deity, giving her the power to kill a Revenant for good. With her teammates, Eino and Deeta, Aullie will do whatever it takes to defend those who can’t defend themselves. The Revenant Watch updates biweekly on Saturdays~

So far this story has become very interesting. Without spoilers, there's very clear metaphores of trauma here and the effects it has on your mental scape. As someone with trauma myself I can say it definitely hits home-- [tbh, it's comforting to see some of the things I struggle with in a story, especially one presented with such love.] And i'm just really liking the emotional plot that's starting for MC. AND IF WE TAKE A SECOND TO PAUSE AND TALK ABOUT CHARACTER DESIGN. For one-- it's great to see mid-sized characters as mc's. While i myself am not necessarily mid-sized [it's hard to descibe what i am, like, certain parts of me are almost there, and others are not. But oh well that's being human.] I have family and freinds that struggle with not getting enough representation, and feeling unseen. Even i do most of the time [What with the crazy beauty standards. A quick middle finger to those.] It's hard to find representation that feels genuine, and I feel this is exactly that, representation because it's human, not for quick praise. It's great because they just have bodies, nothing more. They all look different, and it's because they're human!! Needless to say i love the characters, from their bodies, to clothes, to differences in personality. THIS IS GONNA BE SO GOOOOOD. SERIOUSLY IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT, DO SO, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Anyhow, back on track. The way the story is going i can tell there is going to be angst, if even just a little. And you know I eat that right up. And we're gonna have some found family. ALSO MAIN CHARACTER IS ACE, HUZZAH. A WIN FOR THE ACE CROWD. Which means it's gonna be very found family with maybe [but not necessarily] some side romance for those of us that prefer it, or are sick of every main character falling in love. [To each their own! I can certainly say I find certain types of romance addictive and others are... meh] The only reason I've given this story four stars instead of five is A; I can't put four and a half; B. the story is just beginning. AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO CONTINUE. To close this review I will say one thing. There are tiny messenger mice that talk... and if that doesn't intrigue you then I fear you must reconsider your values. [SERIOUSLY THOUGHT THEY'RE LITERALLY THE CUTEST IN THIS STYLE] [also let's talk about the seriously insane, in a good way, designs of the revenants, AUTHOR YOU'RE KILLING ME WITH HYPE. THEY'RE SO COOOOL]
