Both Ox, the illustrator for the novel series, and Anzai Akira, the artist for the manga adaptation, have released illustrations in celebration of the anime announcement.

Author Enji started the story in April 2021 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website, and Kadokawa published the first novel with illustrations by Ox (Ikinokori Renkinjutsushi wa Machi de Shizuka ni Karashitai) in November 2021. The 10th novel in the series will be released on July 17th, 2025.
Yen Press publishes the novel series in English under the name Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods, and it will release the third novel on November 11th, 2025. Yen Press describes the story below:
“Deep in the countryside, Minato Kusunoki is left in charge of a terrifying house overflowing with evil spirits—or at least it was, until his extraordinary ability cleared them all out! Instead, a procession of unique and peculiar gods is drawn to the comfort of the purified Kusunoki residence, and Minato spends his days relaxing in the company of his spiritual neighbours. What else lies in store for Minato as he lives peacefully surrounded by gods?”
The novel series was adapted into a manga by Anzai in November 2021 in Kadokawa’s ComicWalker, and Kadokawa published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in August 2022 and the fourth volume in December 2024.
