Shogakukan published Yaku’s first novel with illustrations by Fly in May 2016 and the 13th novel in January 2024.
Yen Press has released the first 13 novels in English under the name Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki, and it describes the story below:
“Tomozaki is one of the best gamers in Japan, and in his opinion, the game of real life is one of the worst. No clear-cut rules for success, horribly balanced, and nothing makes sense. But then he meets a gamer who’s just as good as him, and she offers to teach him a few exploits…”
The novel series was adapted into a manga by Chida Eito from December 2017 to February 2021, and Square Enix published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in May 2018 and the sixth and final volume in April 2021.
The novels also received an anime adaptation in January 2021, with a second season in January 2024. Both seasons can be streamed on the Crunchyroll website under the name Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki.
