Sugishima Kunihisa is directing the anime at Teddy studios, and the anime will star Nagase Anna as Mercedes Grunewald.
The anime is based on the Kaketa Tsuki no Mercedes: Kyuuketsuki no Kizoku ni Tensei Shita kedo Suteraresou nanode Dungeon wo Seiha suru (欠けた月のメルセデス～吸血鬼の貴族に転生したけど捨てられそうなのでダンジョンを制覇する～) light novel series by Firehead. Author Firehead started the story in 2018 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website, and TO Books published the first novel, with illustrations by KeG, in May 2011. The series’s fifth novel was released digitally in July 2026.
The novel series was adapted into a manga in 2021 by Edoya Pochi on TO Books’ Comic Corona website. TO Books published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in December 2021, and the sixth volume was released in July 2026.
J-Novel Club releases both the novel series and manga adaptation in English under the name Mercedes and the Waning Moon: The Dungeoneering Feats of a Discarded Vampire Aristocrat. J-Novel Club describes the novel story below:
“Reincarnated as a vampire to a noble father and his shunned concubine, Mercedes Grunewald has always known that one day, her father will choose an heir that isn’t her. But what will become of her family when that time comes? Her mother has no skills, their maid is old, and Mercedes is but a small child. How will they survive in the world on their own?
Luckily, dungeon crawling is a job that anyone can do—even a child. To provide for her family, Mercedes begins training at the age of a kindergartener, and because she’s from a nation of vampires, she fortunately has the potential to become strong. In her past life, she died unfulfilled, but that won’t be her fate this time. In the dungeons, she’s determined to find something that will make her moon full.”
