Kitagawa Takayuki is directing the anime at LandQ studios, and the anime will star Motomura Rena as Marie and Hamano Daiki as Kyuros.
The anime is based on Tobirano’s Zutaboro Reijou wa Ane no Moto Konyakusha ni Dekiai Sareru light novel series. Tobirano (Hoshikuzu no Hanayome wa Unmei no Koi kara Nigedashitai) started the story in October 2019 on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website, and Futabasha published the first novel, illustrated by Murasaki Mai (Akuyaku Reijou Nanode Last Boss o Katte Mimashita), in April 2020. The most recent novel, number seven, was released in May 2024.
Nakagura Chikage has adapted the novel series into a manga. The manga began in July 2020 on Futabasha’s Gaugau Monster website, and Futabasha published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in January 2021; the eighth volume will be released on December 23rd, 2024. The manga is also published in English under the title Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex on Comico’s Pocket Comics website.
With unmaintained red hair and shabby clothes, Marie, the baron’s daughter, has been treated like a servant all her life. Count Granado, the country’s richest man, who is said to be a difficult misogynist, falls in love with her at first sight. However, due to a misunderstanding, Count Granado proposes to her sister Anastasia, who looks like a princess, instead of the ragged Marie.
