Author Akaike started the story in May 2020 on the Shousetsu ni Narou website, and publisher Overlap released the first novel with illustrations by Kururi in September 2021. The series’s eighth novel was released in August 2025, and the ninth novel is scheduled for release on December 25th, 2025.

Aoiro Maro adapted the novel series into a manga in August 2021 on Overlap’s Comic Gardo website. Overlap published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in February 2022 and the seventh volume in April 2025.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes both the novel series and manga adaptation in English under the name Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord: Production Magic Turns a Nameless Village into the Strongest Fortified City. It will release the sixth novel on January 6th, 2026 and the manga’s seventh volume on May 26th, 2026. Seven Seas Entertainment describes the novel’s story below:
“Van, fourth son of a marquis, is just a toddler when he realises he’s been reincarnated. Thanks to his literal lifetime of knowledge, he’s raised as a child prodigy—until his production magic manifests, and it’s the last thing his snooty mage family wants to see! His disappointed father banishes him to a podunk town on the verge of collapse, yet Van can only see the place’s potential. Can our hero’s bastion of battlements build a better life than battle magic ever could?!”
