Staff for the Class de 2-ban Me ni Kawaii Onna no Ko to Tomodachi ni Natta (I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class/クラスで２番目に可愛い女の子と友だちになった ) TV anime have revealed the second promotional video and new visual for the show. It’s also been confirmed that the anime will premiere on April 7th, 2026, on the Tokyo MX channel at 11:30 p.m. JSP.

Tachibana Hideki is directing the anime at CONNECT studio, and the anime will star:

  • Ishiya Haruki as Maki Maehara
  • Iwami Manaka as Umi Asanagi
  • Suzushiro Sayumi as Yuu Amami
  • Hasegawa Ikumi as Nina Nitta

Newly announced cast members include:

  • Kaida Yuuko as Madaki Maehara
  • Itou Shizuka as Sora Asanagi
  • Tsuda Minami as Miki Yagisawa

Class de 2-ban Me ni Kawaii Onna no Ko to Tomodachi ni Natta Anime Teaser visual

The anime is based on the Class de 2-ban Me ni Kawaii Onna no Ko to Tomodachi ni Natta light novel series by author Takata. Kadokawa published Takata’s first novel in December 2021, with illustrations by Osabe Tom, and after the first novel, Hyuuga Azuri took over the illustrations in the series. Kadokawa released the series’s eighth novel in October 2025, and the ninth novel is scheduled for release on April 1st, 2026.

The novel series was adapted into a manga by Ono Rin in 2022 on Kadokawa’s Comic Alive+ website. Kadokawa published the manga’s first tankoubon volume in March 2023 and the seventh volume in December 2025.

Yen Press will publish the manga adaptation in English under the name I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class, and it will release the manga’s third volume on June 23rd, 2026.

Yen Press describes the manga story below:

“Maki Maehara is always on his own at school. He has no friends or hobbies others share, and he doesn’t expect the upcoming academic year to be any different, even surrounded by new faces. And six months later, it seems like he was right—until he runs into his popular classmate Umi Asanagi at a video store!
