CAPCOM has confirmed that the Onimusha: Way of the Sword game will be released early on September 4th, 2026. The game, which will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, was previously slated to launch on September 25th, 2026.

The game’s official Twitter account states that, as a result of the release date change, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 digital version will be automatically cancelled and customers will need to place a new order.

The original Onimusha fantasy action game was released in 2001, and it retells stories from the Sengoku era using supernatural elements. The latest games in the franchise were a remastered version of the Onimusha Warlords game, released in January 2019 and the remastered Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny game, released in May 2025.
