Square Enix has announced that the mobile RPG game Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile will end its service on March 29th, 2024. The game was launched for iOS and Android in August 2022 and is free to play with optional in-game purchases. All in-game purchases have been suspended as of December 27th, 2023.
The development team for the game explained that while the game had received positive feedback, it had also received criticism that the service had not been satisfactory and improvement was required. While attempts were made to improve the game experience, the development team concluded that it had become difficult to maintain the necessary team structure to provide a better service.
As the game service will end next year, the development team will instead produce a voice drama to be released sequentially via streaming between January and March 2024, and this will deliver on the original story that the team had promised.
The game is based on the Hagane no Renkinjutsushi (Fullmetal Alchemist) manga by Arakawa Hiromu, which ran from 2001 to 2010 in the Monthly Shounen Gangan. The manga inspired a TV anime in 2003 and 2009, two anime movies and two live-action movies.
